page 1Question

The lobby curtain wall at the east elevation has a clear span of 21 feet 4 inches between floor slab and the transfer beam. Specification 08 44 13 paragraph 1.07 gives a deflection limit of L/240 plus one quarter inch for spans greater than 13 feet 6 inches. Applying that limit to a 21 foot 4 inch span yields a permissible deflection of 1.317 inches. Please confirm this is the intended limit for the lobby, as the mullion depth required to meet it exceeds the 10 inch depth shown on the architectural elevations.

page 2Response

L/240 plus one quarter inch is the correct and intended limit and is not waived at the lobby. The mullion depth shown on the architectural elevations is diagrammatic. Coordinate the required depth with the Architect before fabrication. A deeper mullion at this location is acceptable provided the exterior sightline is maintained.
